Hi! I’m Ryan. Thanks for stopping by to read a bit about the ups and downs of my life as a dad to 2 awesome kids.
At 32 years old, I first became a dad. As with most new fathers, I had no practical experience except for an occasionally visit with my niece and helping to change the dirty diapers of my little sister 20 years earlier.
I joined the dad club back in 2014 with the birth of my son, Daxton. It was frightening for both my wife and myself as our new son had a rough birth and spent the better part of the week in the NICU. Luckily for us all, his stay was mostly for observation after the first few hours. We had to pay very close attention to the clock, since even being a minute late for a feeding would mean a nurse would already be there rocking him with a fresh bottle in his mouth.
In 2016, we welcomed our daughter, Taylee. By this time, I felt like a pro. We were checked in the hospital by 9am and were a family of four by 10am. She cried, drank, pooped and slept. Everything a new little baby is supposed to do. We then went home and the terror of realizing two lives fully depended on me sunk in. I was anything but a pro.
Today, I balance a career in Information Security with raising kids, camping, biking and traveling. I also enjoy keeping a saltwater reef aquarium and swimming with my kids in the short summers of central Iowa. I never outgrew my love for video games and would even let my brothers’ choose Oddjob as that just made victory that much more sweet.
